We love our porches and patios in the South. They are an extension of our home and a great place for family and friends to gather and enjoy the outdoors. Here are a few inspiring outdoor spaces to get you revved up for summer…..

Look at how the white upholstery and painted blue ceiling gives the room a crisp, clean, summery feel. It looks like a great place to kick back and enjoy a good book or breeze through a magazine.

What a great place to gather with friends and enjoy a summer evening. The sectional provides a lot of seating without looking bulky. Just imagine how many friends could squeeze onto this sofa during a great party.

This is outdoor dining in style! It has it all…a built in grill, tiled floors, a large dining table and comfy seating. I can imagine spending many hours around this table eating and laughing with family and friends!

I’m sure you have noticed the influx of garden stools in home decor magazines and furniture stores. Garden stools originated during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and were originally used in the garden. Today, garden stools are gaining popularity in interior design. Their small scale design and versatility allow them to adapt to almost an room in the house from the living room to the bathroom. They are easily moved from place to place and provide an extra seat or spot to set a drink or book. The best thing about garden stools is that they are easily available, relatively inexpensive and come in a variety of shapes and colors. Enjoy some pictures of this hard working little stool!

Have you been trying to think of ways to decorate a bare wall in your home, consider hanging a collage of your favorite photos or artwork. Pictures collages are also a personal and beautiful way to showcase your family treasures.

Probably the most import piece of furniture in your living or family room is your sofa. It serves as a place to visit with company, curl up and watch a movie or your favorite TV show and if you have children, it may even serve as a trampoline! My advice is to invest in a high quality sofa that will take the wear and tear of everyday living. When you are looking for a sofa, you will have a variety of choices when it comes to styles. The style of a sofa is generally determined by three things: the arms, the back, and the legs or skirt. Take a look at some of the most classic and well-know sofa styles.

English or Club Sofa: slightly rounded arms set back from the front of the seat, tight seat , slightly rolled back, no skirt, and turned legs on castors.

Tuxedo: high arms from back to front and clean lines.

Camelback: distinctive style created by Thomas Chippendale in the 18th century, traditional and formal style, serpentine back, high rolled arms.

Knole: high and straight back, angled arms that can be adjusted to open out or stand up straight, finials and cords connect the backs and the arms of the sofa.

Cabriole: 18th-century Louis XV–style sofa curves in a continuous line creating an oval shape, usually has exposed wood trim and carved legs.

Lawson: straight lines with low, square back and arms.

Chesterfield: tufted back, high rolled arms, and sometimes tufted seat. It is often upholstered in leather.

Midcentury Modern: Retro feel with straight, square lines, often with low, square legs.
