Walking into any furniture showroom, you will find bedroom sets that include a matching bed, night stands, and dressers. They are appealing because you know that everything matches and you can purchase everything on the spot. However, they tend to lack personality.
To achieve a bedroom with character, it is best to mix and match the furniture pieces. One of my favorite ways to create a bedroom with a designer feel is to start with an upholstered bed because it allows you to mix your furniture easily. You can pair an upholstered bed with anything from dark wood to painted wood or even mirrored pieces.
When choosing an upholstered bed, I like to stick to a neutral fabric. It gives you the ability to change your bedding without worrying about matching your bed. You can add interest to a neutral fabric by adding tufting or nail-heads. An added feature to an upholstered bed is the softness they lend to the room both visually and physically.
